The DARE HEAR Facts and Figures Report 2017
The backdrop for this research is An Evaluation of the HEAR and DARE Supplementary Admissions Routes to Higher Education (Byrne, Doris, Sweetman, Casey and Raffe, 20131), which resulted in significant changes to the operation of HEAR and DARE. In the context of these changes, in addition to broader national and sectoral
developments, and increases in application rates and admissions through DARE HEAR, participating HEIs deemed it an appropriate time to conduct longitudinal research and present facts and figures to inform the future developments in access and widening participation in HE. The DARE HEAR Facts and Figures Report 2017 was prepared by Dr. Siobhán Nic Fhlannchadha, DARE HEAR Research and Operations Officer based in the Irish Universities Association, on behalf of the DARE HEAR participating HEIs.
The aim of this report was to generate and present facts, figures, observations, and patterns across 2016 and 2015 predominantly. Longitudinal reporting was limited due to the significant changes in the application processes over time, as well as how data were collected. It was hoped that by presenting data in this way, it will be a valuable tool to identify emerging areas for policy priority and support HEIs to map the future policy direction of the schemes.
